Diane Keaton Says She’s An ‘Idiot, Not An Icon’ While Filming New Movie

Sixty years in Hollywood, Diane Keaton is undoubtedly considered an icon, but the Mack & Rita actress won’t accept the title and jokingly dismissed it during an interview with Vogue. “No, I’m not. That’s no icon—more like an idiot, I’ll tell you that,” Diane countered. This came after a picture of the star in a white button-down shirt, a corset waist belt, and thigh-high snakeskin stilettos boots on the poster of Mack & Rita went viral.

She felt the outfit looked weird despite choosing it herself. “I’m looking at the picture from Mack & Rita that they’re selling of me and what I’m wearing, it’s not attractive—those legs are like sticks. It’s so stupid! So I hope it’s funny. I hope people get a kick out of how ridiculous it is. ”

Diane says she hasn’t “seen anything worse”

The creativity and freedom she experienced on set, which is evident in her decision to wear the outfit in the first place, show she enjoyed herself. “That’s why I had a good time on the film, because I was just being me. I wouldn’t go so far as to wear the clothing that’s on the billboard. It’s terrible, are you kidding? That white thing with that belt around my waist … and those legs? I’ve never seen anything worse. And the fact that we put on those leggings with those boots? I mean, that’s scary.”

The star wouldn’t want the costume manager to take the fall for the controversial style, so she spoke the truth, “Are you thinking I didn’t pick out those clothes with help? I did. That was my choice. I’m taking the hit for that one. Of course, the hair too—lovely,” she affirmed. “It says that I’m also a coproducer down at the bottom there, so they had to deal with me. I made some perfect choices for that character,” she added.
