It has been reported that Jackie Lane, who was known for her role in the original TV series Doctor Who, has died at the age of 79. She appeared William Hartnell’s first Doctor in the role of Dodo Chaplet. The official Twitter account for the TV show tweeted out the sad news, saying, “We’re sad to hear that Jackie Lane has passed away, she played the First Doctor’s companion Dodo Chaplet.”
Lane joined the third season of the show in 1966. Despite being a fan favorite, Lane only appeared in 19 episodes and many believed that she had a departure from the show that she did not deserve.
Despite Lane’s early exit from the show, she returned a number of times to the franchise in various ways and also recorded a special message for the 50th anniversary of the show. According to MovieWeb.com, an outpouring of tributes from fans have surfaced including, “Very very upset to see the sad news about Doctor Who companion Jackie Lane. I can’t lie, I’ve always liked Dodo, and she was in a cracking run of stories. May she RIP.”
