  • 1959 – Frankie Avalon had to bow out of the ill-fated Winter Dance Party (that had already claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper) due to pneumonia, replaced by Paul Anka and Fabian.
  • 1959 – “Stagger Lee” by Lloyd Price moved to #1 on the R&B chart.
  • 1963 – Bobby Vee’s excellent “The Night Has A Thousand Eyes” remained third.
  • 1970 – Sly & the Family Stone received a Gold Record for the single ‘Thank You’.
  • 1974 – “Waterloo” by Abba was chosen to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest.

• 1974 – Anne Murray reached #1 on the Adult chart with “Love Song”.
• 1974 – Eddie Kendricks had himself a #1 R&B song with “Boogie Down”.
• 1974 – The beautiful “Love’s Theme” by Love Unlimited Orchestra was the new #1 song.

• 1955 – The Disneyland television series airs A Progress Report, featuring a report on the Anaheim theme park’s construction and the True Life Adventure Nature’s Half Acre.
• 1964 – The Beatles made the first of three record-breaking appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” 73 million people watched the show. It was their American TV debut.
• 1964 – Davy Jones made his U.S. television debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show” with other cast members of Oliver!
• 1969 – Roslyn Kind made her TV debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. Roslyn Kind is the sister of Barbra Streisand.
• 1972 –  Bobby Darin starred on an episode of Night Gallery on NBC-TV.
• 1975 –  Cher debuted her television variety series with guests Elton John and Bette Midler.

• 1942 – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates Disney’s Dumbo  for Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture and Best Music, Original Song (for “Baby Mine”).
• 1960 –  The first star was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star was for Joanne Woodward.
• 1965 – Vice President Hubert Humphrey escorts Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to the White House in Washington on Feb. 9, 1965 for a meeting with President Johnson to discuss civil rights problems.
• 1966 – Liza Minnelli brought her night club act to New York City. She opened at the Persian Room of the Plaza Hotel.
• 1971 – The Apollo 14 spacecraft returned to Earth after mankind’s third landing on the moon.
• 1971 – Satchel Paige was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on this day.
• 1982.  The film looks at the world through the eyes of a child.
• 1996 – The Disney Institute opens at Walt Disney World, Florida.

• 1999 – Disney’s Mulan and the Disney/Pixar A Bug’s Life both receives Academy Award nominations for Achievement In Music Written For Motion Pictures (Original Musical or Comedy Score). The 71st Academy Awards ceremony took place on March 21.
