John Goodman surprised longtime fans after appearing noticeably slimmer in a new candid photo taken during an ordinary trip to the grocery store. The 74-year-old actor posed beside Wizards of Waverly Place star David DeLuise after the two unexpectedly crossed paths, and DeLuise later shared the moment on Instagram. According to PageSix, for viewers who still picture the John Goodman-Roseanne years, the new photo offers quite a contrast. Fans filled the comments with memories of Goodman as one of television’s favorite dads, while others recalled his performances in The Flintstones, Raising Arizona, Monsters, Inc., and The Big Lebowski. Several viewers also commented on just how different the veteran actor looks after years of lifestyle changes. 'Roseanne' Star John Goodman Looks Dramatically Different at 74 View this post on Instagram A post shared by daviddeluise (@daviddeluise) DeLuise snapped the casual selfie inside a supermarket and described Goodman as one of the legends he remembered from childhood. The unexpected encounter delighted followers, many of whom grew up watching Goodman play Dan Conner on Roseanne. His performance as the funny, hardworking family patriarch made him one of the most recognizable television actors of the late 1980s and 1990s. He has discussed his changing health habits for years and has said he once weighed close to 400 pounds. He quit drinking in 2007, cut back on sugar, adopted a Mediterranean-style approach to eating, and began exercising regularly with professional guidance. By 2023, he had lost around 200 pounds. Rather than relying on quick fixes, Goodman has described his later approach as a gradual effort to build habits he could maintain. His Transformation Came After Decades of Weight Struggles John Goodman in the Conners/Instagram Goodman has also spoken candidly about the cycle he followed earlier in life. He would lose significant amounts of weight and then return to old habits, causing the weight to come back. Eventually, he said he wanted to live differently and stopped treating weight loss as something temporary. Walking, boxing, portion control, and other forms of regular movement became part of that longer-term change. After Roseanne, Goodman returned as Dan Conner for The Conners, keeping the character alive for another generation of viewers. His film work has ranged from the Coen brothers’ comedies and dramas to family favorites and animated hits. That long history explains why the recent supermarket picture inspired so much nostalgia. Fans were not simply reacting to a physical transformation; many were seeing someone who had been part of their television and movie memories for decades. For those who remember John Goodman and Roseanne episodes from their original run, seeing him at 74 is another reminder of just how much time has passed—and how enduring his place in pop culture remains.
