Born on July 26, 1943, in Dartford, Kent, England, Mick Jagger grew up in a family that expected him to pursue a more traditional path. His father worked as a physical education teacher, while his mother was a hairdresser. Yet music captured his heart from an early age. He sang in the church choir and found inspiration in the recordings of American blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Little Richard.

A chance reunion with childhood friend Keith Richards became one of the defining moments in rock history. The pair reconnected while traveling by train in 1961 and quickly discovered they shared a deep love for rhythm and blues. Their friendship soon turned into a musical partnership, and together they helped form the Rolling Stones. That creative bond would produce many of the band’s biggest songs and become one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships in popular music.

Hits such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Paint It Black,” “Ruby Tuesday,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” helped turn the group into one of the biggest bands in the world. Over the decades, they sold more than 250 million records, earned multiple Grammy Awards, and secured their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
