Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited at the O2 stadium in London as the former wrapped up his Got Back tour on December 19. Fans were in for a delightful surprise as the former Beatles bandmates performed classics like “Helter Skelter” and “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
Thursday night was special as the duo showed off expressive energy on stage while in their eighties. Fans took to social media to praise them with clips and photos from the concert, including one that caught the attention of the Fab Four supporters from years ago.
Fan recreates photo of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr from decades ago
An X user who attended the concert posted a photo of Paul and Ringo on stage, side-by-side with a similar-looking one from the mid-60s. The upload went viral as it looked like a wholesome full-circle moment between the two music legends.
Many pointed out that Paul was using the same guitar from the old photo, likely to be the one he recovered after someone stole it. “I wonder if that’s the original 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass that McCartney had returned to him after being stolen and missing for 50 years?! Looks the same but with the pickguard removed. Could be one of the others he owns though. Anyhow— cool!” a reply read.
Life after Beatles
It is not the first time Paul and Ringo would be back together again, as they previously reunited during Paris Fashion Week in March. Paul also graced Ringo’s Hall of Fame Induction event in 2015, which came four years before the Freshen Up tour with both of them present.
Fans admired their lasting legacy and friendship, which has continued long after the Beatles’ dissolution in the ‘70s. “Awesome musicians, they were well ahead of their time and changed music forever!” an X user exclaimed.
