Actor Kevin Spacey was rushed to a hospital in Uzbekistan earlier this week while attending a local film festival. The event had mostly wrapped up and Spacey was spending his free time touring historical destinations when suddenly his arm went numb. He was hospitalized for fear of a heart attack.
Spacey had been walking through the ancient Afrasiyab Museum when he suddenly exhibited symptoms of a heart attack. He received treatment at Innova Diagnostic Clinic. Fortunately, medical personnel gave him the all-clear but the health scare gave the 64-year-old actor pause about the fragility of life.

“As I was looking at the unique patterns of the Gur-Emir Mausoleum in Samarkand, my left arm failed,” shared Spacey, according to the festival’s official website. At first, Spacey tried to shrug it off “but I immediately told the people I was with what had just happened, and on their advice, we went immediately to the… medical center.”

He continued, “I was taken to a modern medical facility in the historic city. There I was quickly treated and fortunately, nothing serious happened.”
Spacey said he was “grateful” both that Samarkand had “such qualified doctors” and that his condition wasn’t “anything more serious.” Numbness in the left arm is a common noticeable symptom of a heart attack, itself often caused by blocks in the coronary artery.
“Human life is very fragile and short,” he reflected after the incident, “so everyone should live together and support each other.”

The incident occurred on Monday, on the eve of the event’s closing ceremony on Tuesday. There, industry insiders host master classes for newcomers to learn from. Spacey was among one of those stars, hosting a master class just the day before his possible heart attack.
“The workshops that have taken place have allowed professionals to help young aspiring filmmakers learn and grow,” he told guests. “I know how incredibly important this is because I myself grew up in programs like this when I first discovered film.”

He continued, “It’s extraordinary that the Central Asian region is coming together, working together, and giving this opportunity to so many people. You should be proud of the work that you’re doing, and I’m honored to stand here with you today and support you.”
Spacey’s appearance at the film festival, the 15th of its kind, comes months after he was cleared of sexual assault charges, alleging he had violently groped three actors and performed a nonconsensual sexual act on another, an aspiring actor. Accusations first arose in 2017 after the #MeToo movement gained momentum.
