Karen Allen turns 75 today, and she is exactly where she wants to be. The actress who made Marion Ravenwood one of the great screen heroines was born October 5, 1951 in Carrollton, Illinois, the daughter of a teacher and an FBI agent, and these days she splits her time between acting and the fiber-arts studio she runs in the Berkshires, as profiled by The Boston Globe.
Her run in that first golden decade was remarkable. “Animal House” in 1978, then “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, which won her the Saturn Award for Best Actress, then “Starman” in 1984 and “Scrooged” in 1988. She returned as Marion in 2008 and again in 2023, drink-me-under-the-table toughness fully intact.
Karen Allen’s Life After Indiana Jones

The second act may be the most interesting part. She opened Karen Allen Fiber Arts in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 2005, earned an honorary doctorate from FIT for her textile design work in 2010, and teaches theater at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Her old co-star is not slowing down either. We recently covered how 84-year-old Harrison Ford is returning to ‘Indiana Jones’ for a surprising new project.
Seventy-five years old, still acting, still weaving, still Marion. Here’s looking at you, kid, as a different classic put it. She earned the salute.
