Bruce Willis’ Wife Shares Hopeful Update: He’s Still ‘Very Present’ Amid Dementia

by Ruth A

Published September 12, 2026

Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, is sharing a hopeful update about life with the actor as their family continues navigating his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. While she does not minimize the difficulty of the disease, she says the 71-year-old Die Hard star remains “very present” and still shares meaningful moments of connection with those closest to him.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the latest Bruce Willis health update offers a more personal look at how the family has adapted since his diagnosis. Heming Willis says she wants people to understand that dementia can bring enormous challenges while still leaving room for joy, affection, and connection.

In a preview of her interview on Because We Care with Richard Lui, Heming Willis explained that the family continues to experience many beautiful moments together. She believes those moments matter because public conversations about dementia often focus almost entirely on loss and difficulty.

Heming Willis said the family has learned to adapt and “show up for Bruce” rather than expect things to remain the same. She has also called for greater support and visibility for caregivers and people living with dementia. Willis remains surrounded by family, including daughters Mabel, Evelyn, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, with relatives continuing to share occasional updates about him.

Willis’ family first revealed that he had aphasia before later announcing his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023. Heming Willis has since spoken openly about another part of the condition called anosognosia, which can prevent someone from recognizing the changes happening to them. She explained that this should not automatically be mistaken for denial. For some people with dementia, changes in the brain can make it difficult to understand or recognize their own condition. That reality has required Willis’ family to adjust how they communicate with and care for him.

Still, Heming Willis focuses on what remains rather than only what dementia has changed. Her updates on Bruce Willis’s health highlight the moments of love and connection his family continues to share. Through Because We Care with Richard Lui, she is also helping broaden the conversation around caregiving and dementia, emphasizing that illness does not erase every moment of joy.
