Rita Moreno Credits Her Good Genes For Longevity While Celebrating 93rd Birthday

Rita Moreno is aware that she looks good for her age, as she praised herself while celebrating her 93rd birthday. She spent her day recording a recent episode of the Wiser Than Me podcast, where she told Julia Louis-Dreyfus that she has nice skin for a 93-year-old.

Rita called herself a “lucky b—tch with fantastic genes” because she does not need to do anything special or outside the box to maintain her looks. She does not even follow a skincare routine despite spending her younger days tanning in the sun.

Julia asked if Rita had ever gotten skin cancer due to sun exposure in the past, but the actress was lucky to escape the disease, unlike her mother, Rosa Maria. Rita does not work out or follow strict diets despite being diagnosed as pre-diabetic by her doctor.

Rita still eats what she likes but limits the sweet and sugary snacks for her health’s sake. She admitted to never working out since Broadway’s Sunset Boulevard, saying all the dancing she did playing Norma Desmond made her bad knees from West Side Story worse.

Rita got candid about life in her nineties, saying she now finds it difficult to bend her knees or go up steps. She joked about having to ask for help each time she had to climb a stage to receive awards.

The award-winning actress added that she now receives more recognition as she ages, as if people are trying to honor her quickly before she dies. Rita has yet to retire at 93, even after achieving EGOT status. She is still open to more roles and looks forward to working with Emma Stone before she passes away.
