The oldest of the late Loretta Lynn’s 26 grandchildren, Lynn Massey, has died of an unnamed illness, which reportedly lasted for years. This comes about a decade after her own mother, Betty Sue Lynn, died of complications from emphysema. Lynn also lost Betty Sue’s brother in 1984 after he drowned while horseback riding.
The news of Massey’s tragic death broke on social media via Lynn’s Instagram page, with gratitude to fans and supporters for their prayers. The post was accompanied by a homely photo of Massey standing in front of Lynn’s vinyl records with a big smile on her face. While it was not disclosed, multiple reports claim that Massey was 64 years old.

Betty Sue was only 18 when she gave birth to Massey, and at the time, Grandma Lynn’s last twin children, Peggy and Patsy, were only two years old. Massey used to join the rest of the family on Lynn’s Hurricane Mills ranch in Tennessee every holiday season, where Lynn would make her famous chicken and dumplings before her passing in 2022.
Lynn was a big family woman and fondly spoke about the noisy Christmases at her country home, where she would simply put stoppers in her ears and relish the moment. Although Massey was not in the spotlight as much, her cousins Tayla Lynn and Emmy Russells are forging a career in music.
