Madonna’s ex-husband recently cleared the air about the long-standing rumor of him physically abusing her during their marriage. Sean Penn recalled having a SWAT team over at their house because Madonna alerted them about guns in the house, and they forcefully broke in and put him in handcuffs.
Although their marriage, which lasted from 1985 to 1989, was a rocky one, the duo have found friendship post-divorce, with Penn admitting he still loves her. The Queen of Pop initiated their separation twice within those four years, raising allegations that Penn may have been hitting her.
Sean Penn denies beating Madonna
Penn was accused of hitting Madonna with a baseball bat, tying her to a chair for long hours, and even tossing her like a turkey, for which the police confronted him. He also admitted to spending the night with a date who, to his utmost surprise, brought up the allegations and was visibly cautious of him.

Madonna herself addressed the issue about a decade ago, noting that they often had heated moments, but none led to Penn physically abusing her. She called contrary reports “completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false,” adding that her ex-lover was a kind and compassionate man.
Life after divorce
Penn remarried twice after his failed marriage to Madonna, with his latest divorce from Leila George finalized in 2022. He has since preferred to be single, adding that it has been difficult to find cordiality with his last two wives as opposed to Madonna, with whom he shares no children. Although he is still open to romance, the actor is prioritizing his freedom going forward.
Madonna, on the other hand, was last married in 2008 to Guy Ritchie and dated a few more people, including her rumored boxing trainer boyfriend Josh Popper, who owns Bredwinners Gym in New York City. Although they have yet to outrightly confirm their relationship, the duo have been spotted together on several occasions since February last year.
