Nearly three decades after Frank Sinatra’s death from a heart attack in 1998, there have been talks to produce a biopic in his honor by Martin Scorsese and another with writer Paul Schrader as director. However, Frank’s daughters do not seem to welcome the idea.
His eldest, Nancy, has been vocal about her opinion and has subtlely jabbed the news on social media. At the same time, Frank’s daughter Tina, who runs the late legend’s estate, reportedly squashed the ongoing project meant to feature Kevin Spacey as Frank.
Kevin Spacey allegedly wanted to play Frank Sinatra in upcoming biopic
Amid rumors of sexually inappropriate behavior and misconduct, Spacey was deemed Schrader’s best fit to portray Frank, noting that he would not have used him if he got convicted. Schrader added that Spacey “would have been good” since he played “a great Bobby Darin in ‘Beyond The Sea.’” Sadly, Tina refuses to grant her permission to proceed with the biopic.

Spacey was accused of nine sexual offenses against four men but was found not guilty, nonetheless more testimonies from his other alleged victims aired on a new Channel 4 documentary, sending the actor into a spiral. Spacey clapped back on social media, warning that the claims against him have been “inaccurate” and “one-sided.”
In Schrader’s words, Tina is “very protective of her father’s image and this was not an altogether flattering portrait of him.” All, including the script and cast, were ready, but Tina’s disapproval meant a no-show. Martin had a similar pushback years ago after he revealed plans to cast Leo Dicaprio as “Ol’ Blue Eyes” and was quickly met with a refusal from Nancy.
Martin revealed that his goal for the film—to explore the dark side of Frank’s life and career—was against his family’s wishes. Nancy took to social media at the time, retweeting a black-and-white photo of her parents with the caption, “Sorry Leo and JLaw, you will never be them.” This was enough to show her opinion about the casting. Martin appears to be revisiting the project alongside a movie about Jesus this year.
