In celebration of International Women’s Day, Die Hard star Bruce Willis’ daughter, Rumer Willis, posted a topless photo on her Instagram. In the heartwarming shot, Rumer stood topless with her daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, on her chest, being breastfed. The 35-year-old wore loose jeans and kept her hair in a messy side part as she stared into the camera in her bedroom. “Love of my life, happy International Women’s Day,” she captioned the post.
Although Rumer likely intended to celebrate motherhood and the beauty of womanhood with the photo, she faced backlash from netizens. “Women didn’t feel the need to constantly show their big pregnant bellies or show they are breastfeeding,” someone snapped. “Not sure what all that is??? It’s been going on since forever, just wondering why some things just can’t stay a bit private.” Another user was concerned about baby Louetta, whose butt was uncovered as Rumer cradled her. “Don’t post pictures of your baby’s nude body online. Perverts get off on less than this. Please protect your children,” they advised. “Beautiful picture, but someday that kid is going to be furious with you for posting their booty on the internet,” another added.
Who is the father of Rumer Willis’ baby?

Rumer shares her new baby with her musician boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, who joined her to announce their pregnancy in December 2022, and by April, they became parents. Derek goes by the stage name DRT as an indie artiste and was formerly a part of the Vista Kicks band as the frontman and lead vocalist. After four albums and one EP with his bandmates, Derek decided to go solo in February 2023, although noting that he is “leaving the door open to come together in the future.”

As Rumer’s partner, he is also a fun addition to the Willis family, as he has jammed with Bruce and his other daughters on multiple occasions. In May 2022, Rumer joined him and The Hail Maries for a live performance of “How Many Years” at Jam In The Van in Los Angeles, after which she said they “are the most talented singers and songwriters I have heard in a very long time (maybe ever).”
Rumer’s stepmom, Emma Heming Willis, has also posted a black and white clip of Derek playing the guitar with Bruce Willis, who sat at the staircase and played the harmonica. Scout Willis watched Derek perform at The Fonda Theatre following the announcement of Bruce’s Frontotemporal Dementia diagnosis. She was so thrilled that she posted, “I didn’t plan the timing but something larger than me did because damn, there is no better way I can think to honor my dad than playing music. Last night was incredible and I feel so loved and so moved.”

Derek has been excited about fatherhood and publicly appreciative of Rumer. “Thank you for growing our child from scratch. I have so much reverence and respect for this journey you’re on. We’re on it together, but you’re doing all the heavy lifting, and I get to just cheer you on, feed you tacos and appreciate you. I can’t wait to dance around the kitchen with our baby,” he wrote to her last Valentine’s Day.
A few months back, Derek and Rumer proved to online trolls that their growing family was thriving after they got slammed for an “expensive” list of baby things Rumer can’t live without. “Nepo baby wish lists? She was never an it girl nor serious about her looks and beauty. I’ll pass,” one of the nasty comments read. “You’ve definitely run out of material when you’re posting about the unaccomplished daughter of an actor & actress,” another echoed. However, Rumer gracefully followed the incident with a cute family photo on the beach containing the caption, “My life is a gift, I have never been happier and feel more in love than I have ever been. I have the most wonderful daughter beyond my wildest dreams. And my story is only beginning.”
Why did Demi Moore name her daughter Rumer?
Rumer’s mother, Demi Moore, named Rumer as a tribute to British novelist Rumer Godden. The renowned author is one of the foremost of the 20th century, with nine of her 60 books already adapted into films. She has multiple awards to her name, including an OBE. Demi had her daughter Rumer in Paducah, Kentucky, on August 16, 1988, ten years before her split from Bruce.
“When their father and I decided to divorce, it probably had the biggest impact on her. There really wasn’t anything I could do to stop it. Her self-esteem was nothing. I could only just keep loving her and loving her until she could love herself,” Demi admitted in 2015. Being born to celebrity parents, Rumer also struggled with media attention and scrutiny from the public; however, as an entertainer, she has grown to bask in the spotlight. “Media attention is tough when you are a kid; it is definitely weird to have that be such public knowledge,” she once revealed. “As I got older and people started, you know, commenting on how I look, that’s when it really started to affect me.”
Rumer’s relationship with her mom was not always a smooth one due to addiction and a chaotic romantic relationship with No Strings Attached star Ashton Kutcher. “She was really struggling mentally and didn’t take care of herself. She didn’t have the best relationship with her daughters either, and her life was just chaos,” a source reported at the time, adding that Demi has fixed the dented bond between herself and her girls— Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.
“Demi feels bad about the years when she wasn’t healthy. She really tries to make up for it now. Her daughters are amazing. Demi is involved in their everyday lives. And they are very supportive of Demi,” they added. After Demi released her book detailing her struggles as a mother and celebrity, Rumer expressed how proud of the G.I Jane star she was, calling her “this beacon of strength and this kind of leader.”
“She’s allowing herself to show everyone that you can go through some really difficult, hard things, and you can still be someone who is thriving and taking accountability and just being a strong survivor,” she added. For the mother of three, watching one of her daughters become one has been a delight, as she calls Lou “a pure joy.” “It really is all the cliches,” she said of the experience. “You get all the fun and joy, and you get to go to bed early and have a good night’s sleep.”
