Ahead of the 75th Emmy Awards ceremony, which will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles in January 2024, a source says the Friends cast members will pay tribute to Matthew Perry at the event. The insider added that Perry’s co-stars are waiting on his family’s approval to proceed with their plan.
Perry received up to five Emmy nominations in his lifetime, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy in 2002 for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends. He also received consecutive nominations in the following years for his work in West Wing(2003). The late actor may earn posthumous accolades from the organizers, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Perry’s friends plan to honor him
The Friends castmates remained close even after the show ended in May 2004. Perry’s passing a few weeks ago came as a shock to the industry and his fans, who are still grieving with on-set clips of him on social media. “When it comes to Matthew’s death, emotions are still running high, and it is still a very touchy situation, which is understandable,” the source said.

The insider also added that the “[Friends] cast want to honor him publicly at some point and give him the tribute he so rightfully deserves— and there have been rumblings to do it at next year’s Emmys.”
A more personal tribute
The surviving Friends alums reportedly prefer to get personal with their tribute to Perry by giving speeches about him on stage.
“They all would love to get together on stage to speak about him and also have their own unique moment sharing memories about him and telling the world about the man he was in real life,” the insider shared.
