Drew Barrymore made the headlines when she candidly discussed her relationship with her 77-year-old mother, Jaid Barrymore, during an interview published in Vulture. In a recently published interview, the TV host delved into her troubled past with her mother and shared her feelings of envy toward friends who were able to confront and work through their traumas after their mothers had passed away.
“All their moms are gone, and my mom’s not. And I’m like, Well, I don’t have that luxury,” Barrymore confessed in the article. “But I cannot wait. I don’t want to live in a state where I wish someone to be gone sooner than they’re meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to f–king grow in spite of her being on this planet.” However, contrary to what she said, rumors are currently circulating that the 48-year-old wished her mother was dead.

She slammed the tabloids for always being after her life ever since she was young. “To all you tabloids out there, you have been f–king with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wish my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth. I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive,” Barrymore stated. “For those of us who have to figure that out in real time, [we] cannot wait. As in, they cannot wait for the time, not that the parent is dead. Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead. I have never said that. I never would.”
Drew Barrymore reveals that she had a complicated relationship with her mother
Barrymore revealed that her mother took charge of her career during her time as a child actor. Unfortunately, the relationship took a negative turn, as her mother led her into an environment that no child should ever have to face by taking her to parties and nightclubs. Regrettably, this early exposure led Barrymore down a troubled path as she began to struggle with substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs. Recognizing the severity of the situation, her mother took the responsible step of admitting her to rehab.
Despite the difficult circumstances and their somewhat estranged relationship, Barrymore, after emancipating herself at the age of 14, made the compassionate decision to continue providing financial support to her mother.
