Kathy Bates Will Be Joining Clint Eastwood’s ‘The Ballad Of Richard Jewell’

Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates is joining Clint Eastwood’s The Ballad of Richard Jewell. She is playing the role of Bobi Jewell, Richard’s mother who was an insurance claims adjuster. I, Tonya actor Paul Walter Hauser will also be playing the title role, a man who is wrongfully suspected of being involved in the Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. This is based on the real-life event.

Sam Rockwell will be playing the role of Jewell’s defense attorney. Directed by Eastwood, it will be scripted by Billy Ray.

‘The Ballad of Richard Jewell’…a man wrongfully accused

The film, as previously mentioned, centers around Richard Jewell, who discovers a suspicious backpack in the Olympics compound. He has everyone clear the area and ends up saving tons of lives that day, yet still found himself being named a suspect in the case. The FBI clears him 3 months later, but his reputation suffers greatly because of the accusations.

He later becomes a police officer, but then passes away in 2007 at the age of 44 from a heart attack.

Also on the production team for the film includes Tim Moore, Jessica Meier, Kevin Misher, Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson. Production companies include Malpaso, Misher Films, 75 Year Plan, and Appian Way.

The film is currently in pre-production stages with no known release date yet. There is no more additional information on the film but we will be sure to update you with new updates as they come! We’re really excited to see what Eastwood decides to do with this amazing drama film.
