Celine Dion is a world-renowned singer, and fans know about her love story with her late husband René Angélil. The pair met when Celine was only 12 years old when she started working with René as her manager. When Celine grew up, she started to develop feelings for him, but most people disagreed with their romance at first.
When Celine was 12, she wrote her first song with her brother Jacques called “Ce n’était qu’un rêve,” which translates to “It Was Only A Dream.” They sent the song to music producer René, who was in the band Les Baronets at the time. They met and when she was singing, she remembers he began to cry.

René truly believed in Celine and even took out a mortgage on his home to help her create her first record. They continued to work together over the years. He helped her to learn English so that she could be marketed worldwide.
Celine admits when she was 17 years old, her feelings began to change for René. He was 43 years old at the time and felt the same, but was afraid of what other people would say. They ended up getting engaged and even Celine’s mother disapproved of the union at first.
They got married in 1994
According to Boredom Therapy, Celine said that it was very difficult for her mother when they got engaged. “When I told her I had some really strong feelings for René, she tried everything to kill him and make me snap out of it. But in the end, love always wins.”
Eventually, her mother came around and the couple got married in 1994 when Celine was 19 and René was 46. Now as a married couple, they continued to work together as a singer and manager. Celine got even more fame when her song “My Heart Will Go On” was used for the popular film Titanic.
When they had been married for five years, René was diagnosed with throat cancer, but he ended up making a full recovery. The couple then began to try to have kids. They had their first son with the help of IVF. In 2001, René Charles Angélil, or R.C. was born.
It wasn’t always perfect. Celine admits they had tough times, like any married couple. “René and I had our tough times. It wasn’t always easy. Talk over everything and you’ll find you are still on the honeymoon.”
Their love story came to an end
Nine years later, they had twins and renewed their vows! Unfortunately, in 2015 René’s cancer came back. He passed away in 2016, two days before his 74th birthday, in Celine’s arms. Many thought that Celine might shy away from her singing career after René passed, but she wanted to continue in his honor.
Celine said, “I understand that my career was in a way his masterpiece. The idea of leaving it unfinished would hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him.”
