Country singer Randy Travis, unfortunately, suffered from a stroke in 2013. That stroke left him in a coma and needing brain surgery. Randy and his wife Mary previously kept pretty quiet about the whole ordeal. They are now opening up about the health scare in interviews because of his upcoming book release.
Randy’s new memoir is called Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life. Randy has had a long road to recovery since his surgery and stroke. Randy went to the emergency room in July 2013 because he felt congested.

Turns out he had a stroke that was “a complication of his congestive heart failure.” He then went into a coma and only had 1% chance of survival! He then underwent brain surgery and was in the hospital for six months after to recover. He had to learn how to walk and talk again and still faces issues to this day.
When he was in the hospital, at one point doctors brought up removing Randy from life support. His wife Mary said that she knew he would fight through and was adamant about not taking him off life support.
Randy is doing much better these days
Recently, Randy turned 60 and we are so happy that he pulled through! To celebrate his birthday, his new book recently came out that will cover all of his health struggles. Will you be picking up a copy?
Mary told People, “We make it a point to find something laugh about every single day. That makes all the difference in the world. Even through the tears sometimes, of sadness and defeat, you smile.” What an incredible outlook! We hope the best for Randy and Mary!
