Jimmy Kimmel’s son, William “Billy” John, has just turned two! This is a huge accomplishment not just for Billy, but for the whole family because Billy was born with tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a heart defect that required two heart surgeries when Billy was just three days old and when he was seven months old.
Kimmel shared an adorable photo of his son who just turned two with the sweet caption, Happy 2nd birthday to our little #Easter buddy Billy. We are grateful always to the nurses and doctors at @CedarsSinai & @ChildrensLA who saved his life and all of you who prayed & sent positive thoughts our way. #HappyEaster.”
Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney went through every parents’ nightmare when they learned their newborn son had a heart defect that would require extensive surgery. Kimmel opened his show with a tearful monologue about the situation in May 2017 and then talked with Oprah Winfrey in April 2018 about the struggles both he and his wife faced.
“There were secrets we kept from each other that we revealed only after the second surgery. The biggest one was that, I think subconsciously, we didn’t want to get too close to the baby because we didn’t know what was going to happen,” he revealed.
The parents also share 4-year-old daughter, Jane. Kimmel also has two older children, Kevin and Katie, from a previous relationship. The late-night host is no stranger to sharing family photos on his social media and often spends a lot of time posting photos of his children. He’s definitely a huge family man and shows it!
Many fans of the host have been sending well wishes to the family, happy that Billy is remaining so strong and healthy despite all he’s gone through!
“The greatest present you can have is family.” Truer words have not been spoken!
“How appropriate that Billy’s birthday falls near a holiday that represents hope and overcoming,” one Instagram commenter says. They also added the hashtag #heartwarrior, in reference to his heart defect. Billy is surely a heart warrior!
One commenter, who is a pediatric/neonatal ICU RN, expressed her appreciation to Kimmel who expressed his own appreciation for the nurses who cared for his son in some of the toughest moments of his life.
