7. “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” by Louis Sachar
This 1978 children’s novel is centered around the “sideways stories” and adventures that come out of the fictional Wayside School. The stories always center around Mrs. Jewls’s class on the 29th ‘story’ of the building.
8. “The Monster at the End of this Book” by Jon Stone
This 1971 book is a children’s picture book starring Sesame Street’s character Glover. Everyone should remember reading through this book!
9. “Goodnight Moon” by Margaret Wise Brown
“Goodnight Moon” was a classic bedtime story for children and was first published in 1947 but continues to be a staple in bedtime stories today. It features a bunny saying “goodnight” to all the inanimate objects in the room.
10. “Frog and Toad are Friends” by Arnold Lobel
This book is a children’s picture book that was published in 1970. The series features a bunch of short stories about the Frog and the Toad, the two main characters of the series.
11. “The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tiler” by Gene Kemp
This book, which was published in 1977, details children’s day-school adventures which follows Theodora “Tyke” Tiler, the narrator, and a slew of other characters.
12. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” by Judi Barrett
Another outrageously popular book for people of all generations, this 1978 classic details a grandfather telling a bedtime story to his grandchildren about a fantasy world called Chewandswallow. The children wake up the next morning in a fantasy-type world similar to the place that their grandfather told them about.
13. “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing” by Judy Blume
Judy Blume, being a classic author of children’s books, published this story in 1972. It centers around a nine-year-old boy named Peter Warren Hatcher and his relationship with his two-and-a-half-year-old brother, Farley Drexel “Fudge” Hatcher. Hint: it’s a rocky relationship.
