Southerners Search For This Thanksgiving Recipe More Than Anything Else

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. What kinds of dishes are you planning for your Thanksgiving feast? Many people head to the recipe box or pull out their mother or grandmother’s recipes on old worn-out pieces of paper. What do you do when you need a little extra help with recipes? Search on the Internet, of course.

The website Hayneedle recently did some research on Google trends and what kinds of Thanksgiving recipes people search for based on where they live. When you think of the south, you might think of cranberry salad, collard greens, buttermilk rolls, and everything deep-fried. However, that was not what southerners ended up searching for the most.

What Southerners Search For Most

Southerners (in particular people from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) all searched for pecan pie recipes the most.

Curious about other states? Illinois and Delaware residents searched mostly for sweet potato and stuffing recipes. Over half of the country (mainly West, Mid-West and some Eastern states) searched for the best pumpkin pie recipe. Many of the Eastern states searched for apple pie recipes. More About Pecan Pie

You may think about pecan pie as being a very old Southern tradition, but it is actually fairly new on many Southern Thanksgiving tables. Recipes for pecan pie date all the way back to 1824, but it didn’t become popular until the 1920s when Karo syrup began putting a pecan pie recipe on its bottles.

These days, there are so many delicious recipes for pecan pie. You can make a traditional pecan pie, just like your grandmother used to make or you can go a little crazy with the recipe. There are recipes for chocolate bourbon pecan pie, pecan pie cheesecake, and much more.
