Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a beautiful wedding on May 19, 2018, but there was one very obvious thing missing: Princess Diana.
Prince Harry was only 12 when his mom died, but she left a lasting influence on him. Like his mother, Prince Harry is very involved in philanthropy — it’s one of the things he and Meghan have in common.
Although Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had an absolutely stunning ceremony, there was no denying that Diana’s presence was missed. Despite her absence, wedding guests still felt her spirit, since Harry and Meghan made sure to honor Princess Diana throughout the entire wedding.
When Harry proposed to Meghan in November, he made it clear from the beginning that his mom was on his mind. Princess Diana’s famous sapphire ring became Kate Middleton’s engagement ring from Prince William, but Prince Harry came up with a clever way to honor his mother in Meghan’s ring as well. The two outside stones on Meghan’s engagement ring are from Princess Diana’s personal collection of jewels.
In their engagement interview, Harry revealed that it’s at times like this — big life moments — when he misses his mom the most. And if he was missing Diana during the engagement, there’s no doubt he was thinking of her during the wedding.
The Duchess of Sussex's wedding dress has been designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms. Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. Ms. Markle expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony. Ms. Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition #RoyalWedding

When it came to choosing flowers for the wedding, Harry and Meghan opted for an array of white flowers. In Meghan’s bouquet were forget-me-nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flowers, that Harry hand-picked from the garden at Kensington Palace.
Another of Diana’s favorites, white roses, were on display throughout the chapel. They were also the flowers used in the bridesmaids hairpieces.

Princess Diana’s three siblings all attended the wedding. Diana’s older sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, gave the only reading during the ceremony; she read from the Song of Solomon.
During the ceremony, there was a performance of “Guide Me, O Thy Great Redeemer,” which was also played at Princess Diana’s funeral.
The Reception Ring
The new aquamarine ring #MeghanMarkle wore tonight isn't actually new at all – it belonged to Princess Diana. We assume it was a gift from Prince Harry. Great spot, @saadsalman719 pic.twitter.com/Hr1mrbwN3g

When Prince Harry and Meghan changed outfits for their reception, most people were focused on Meghan’s stunning second dress. What some people didn’t notice was that she was wearing Princess Diana’s enormous aquamarine ring.
Charities Instead Of Gifts
Instead of asking for wedding gifts, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to ask for donations to a few of their favorite charities. Not only would Princess Diana have been proud of their choice to help others, but she also would have loved their selection of causes, which included fighting homelessness and supporting children with HIV and AIDS.
The Wedding Photos
It’s not easy to spot, but the official wedding photographs were actually taken on Princess Diana’s green couch. The couch was actually used at Prince Harry’s christening 33 years ago!
