Betty A. Bridges, ‘Good Times’ Actress & Mother Of ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ Actor Todd Bridges, Dies At 83

  • Bridges was an actress on ‘Good Times’ and was the mother of ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ star Todd Bridges.

 

It has been reported that Betty A. Bridges, known for starring in Good Times as well as being the mother of Diff’rent Strokes actor Todd Bridges, has died at the age of 83. Bridges died at her son’s home in Phoenix, Arizona, where she had been receiving hospice care.

By time of writing, no cause of death has been announced. Todd shared news of her death with a tribute photo on Instagram. The post includes a picture of Betty smiling from ear to ear, smartly dressed in shades of blue and white. The picture includes the caption, “1941 – 2024 Betty Bridges.”

Honoring the remarkable life of Betty A. Bridges

Betty A. Bridges was born on August 1, 1941, and called Dallas, Texas home. The early days of her on-screen career were defined by guest appearances on Police Woman and Charlie’s Angels, as well as the Norman Lear hits Good Times and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Often credited under the name Betty Bridges, she played Charlene in Good Times. Her filmography also includes appearances in Quincy M. E, Wonder Woman, and even Diff’rent Strokes, where her son played Willis Jackson, Phillip’s adoptive son and older brother to Arnold. During her own two episodes on the series, she played both Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Brooks.

Todd followed up his tribute photo with a video montage accompanied by an acoustic cover of “I Love You Always Forever” by Everly Fair.

Bridges is survived by her son Todd and his wife Bettijo Bridges, as well as sons Jimmy Bridges and Zerondrick Hubbard, daughter Verda, and 12 grandchildren: Penny Bae Bridges, Brooke Marie Bridges, Raei Bridges, Mikai Emanuel Bridges, Paxton Isaiah Bridges, Radd Prpich, Bo Bridges, Spencir Bridges, Attalie Anne, Piper Hirschi, Modette Hirschi and Rockwell Hirschi.
