Dolly Parton has had a long journey, from the start of her life before her astronomical fame, into her era as a household name. There have been ups and downs, with Parton coming from poverty and struggling through problematic partnerships. Through it all, Parton honors the role of faith through life’s trials.
Before she began her career spanning five decades and counting, Parton was born the fourth of 12 children, born in a one-room cabin. Her father struggled with a low income but was abundant in street smarts, while her mother was often sickly. Her troubles weren’t over even in the music industry, as her split with Porter Wagoner was a turbulent one. Here’s how faith has helped Parton through it all.
“My faith impacts everything that I do,” Parton shared, “because I do believe that, through God, all things are possible.” She went on to reveal that “I always ask God to bless everything that I do and the people that I work with and to bring all the right things and right people into my life and to take the wrong ones out.”
“So, I try to just live through love as much as I can,” she continued. “And so I just think that my spirituality has been a guiding light in my life and my strength, really, in my creative energy. And my spiritual energy has really been a great force to keep me going all these years and still being productive.”
Parton, 77, lives her life based on several strong beliefs. One belief she asserts is that “anything is possible” through her faith. She also vehemently believes in living an authentic, proud, happy life to its absolute fullest, independent of what others might think.
“I just always felt like I knew who I was, and I just try to stay anchored within myself,” she reflected. “We grew up knowing Jesus loved us and through God all things are possible, so I’ve carried that all the way through my life and gathered a lot of strength from that as well.”
