Country music legend, Willie Nelson is celebrating his 90th birthday on April 28, and to mark his new age, the singer is planning a two-day concert, “Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90,” which will hold at the Hollywood Bowl, in Los Angeles between April 29 and 30. The concert will have performances from other musicians like Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, The Chicks, Sheryl, and Snoop Dogg.
Also, Willie is set to release his new album, I Don’t Know A Thing About Love in March which will be the 98th studio album of his entire career. Ahead of his 90th birthday, Willie is grateful and reflects on how marijuana became his saving grace in an interview with E! News.
The “Touch Me” singer is an avid user of marijuana and supporter of its legalization which prompted him to establish his cannabis company, Willie’s Reserve, in 2015. Willie also believes that using the drug saved his life, and a lot of people’s lives, because it was instrumental to him cutting back on drinking.
“Well, it not only saved my life, it probably saved some other people’s lives,” he said. “Because before I smoked marijuana, but I was also drinking a lot. And I might have killed a lot of people, too. So I’m just glad that that didn’t happen. I’m glad we live through all of the bad times.”
The 89-year-old also spoke about a time when he teamed up on a smoking spree with Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg in Amsterdam. “Oh, we had so much fun trying to out smoke the other one,” Willie said. “I’m not sure we ever finished it or not!”
Willie also gave hint about the diet that has kept him healthy for this long. “I don’t eat a lot,” but he loves eggs, waffles, toast and also takes “a lot” of protein shakes.
The country musician revealed that he is enjoying his health and has cut down his alcohol consumption, “I’m doing pretty good, I’ve managed to keep my weight down pretty good, and I really don’t do anything that’s bad for me. I don’t drink as much as I used to. I still take a drink of tequila occasionally, but not like I used to.”
