The Brave Reason Alicia Witt Wanted To Keep Her Hair Amid Cancer Battle

Actress Alicia Witt is excited to see her hair grow back after losing some of it during her chemotherapy treatment for cancer. She decided to keep her hair all through the fierce struggle with the disease, because she wanted to keep the news of the diagnosis to herself and share it under her own terms.

The actress shared a photo reel in her latest Instagram post, which detailed how her hair looked during chemotherapy treatments. “I don’t mean for this to be a vanity post! but I do want to share, because I know that there are a lot of you here who have gone through the same,” Witt wrote. “And I’m honestly feeling pretty elated about the state of my hair right now.”

Alicia Witt explains how she was able to keep her hair

The 47-year-old offered up an explanation of how and, just as importantly, why, she was determined to keep most of her hair. “When I completed my treatment for breast disease back in March, I had worn cold caps so that I was able to keep enough of my hair to continue working through my treatments (I did two jobs during that time),” she explained. “What a gift to have that privilege so that it could be my choice to share when I wanted to but still, about 45 percent or so did fall out.”

Also, she opened up about using vegan hair thickening products to boost her hair growth while on her recovery journey. “I feel this works, and works big time and quickly. The hair I had lost was already long since coming in by then, of course, but it has started growing much more quickly, and much more of it!” Witt disclosed. “I believe this would help anyone who’s looking to thicken their hair — regardless of whether you’d gone thru chemo-related hair loss.”

Alicia Witt announces her diagnosis and thanks the health team who took care of her

Witt made her first public revelation about her private battle with cancer in June after finishing chemotherapy. “Just a little over two months ago,” she detailed in an Instagram post. “I had my last round of chemical therapy prior to my mastectomy.”

Also, the former child star took time out to thank her “beloved, brilliant, collaborative, communicative doctor,” and other health teams who were a source of encouragement and strength to her throughout the trying period. “I’m so grateful to all those along the way during treatment who honored me by protecting my privacy during these months 🙏🏻 ,” Witt wrote. “And grateful to help share that these caps can truly play a huge role in allowing a patient to reveal her journey on her own time when she is ready.”
