Earlier this year, 6-year-old Wyatt McKee, who is awaiting a heart transplant after being diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, had an unforgettable experience with American country music singer Blake Shelton. The legend welcomed the boy on stage during his show at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, Oklahoma.
Wyatt’s mother, Harley McKee, had previously posted a video on social media, revealing the moment she told the young lad that a good samaritan had fulfilled Wyatt’s wish to see his favorite musician in concert. “We just got the news that a very nice man who heard about how much Wyatt loves Blake Shelton has paid for his ticket to see him live!! He’s so excited!! I don’t know this man but thank you so much!!” the mom shared on Facebook.
Interestingly, at the concert, Wyatt caught Shelton’s attention while holding a homemade placard that read, “Your smallest biggest fan from Lake Texoma, 6 [year old] waiting on a [heart] transplant.”
The Grammy Award nominee couldn’t contain his emotion, “Think y’all are having a bad day, put that into perspective right there, man.” Shelton told the crowd as he kneeled next to the boy, “The next note he has on here, he asks if he can sing this song with me.”
Shelton obliged Wyatt’s request, and the duo sang one of the young boy’s favorites, “God’s Country,” from the singer’s hit album, Fully Loaded: God’s Country, released in 2019. The song won the Country Music Association song of the year honor and was nominated for a Grammy for best country solo performance.
The excited mom took to Facebook to pen down a heartfelt message to Blake Shelton on Facebook: “I don’t know if Blake Shelton will ever see this, but I just want to let him know he is awesome and officially my favorite person. He absolutely made Wyatt’s day, thank you so much to him and everyone who stopped us to tell him how great he was on stage and told him they are praying for him!!! Definitely a night to remember!!! #WyattStrong”
Harley McKee’s post has drawn a lot of attention as Blake Shelton reposted the moment on Twitter with a caption, “This little buddy made my night. Thank you for singing ‘God’s Country’ with me Wyatt!”
Fans and well-wishers have embarked on a mission to share Wyatt’s story with the hopes that it could help him. The engagement on the post was encouraging as someone penned down an emotional comment, “I’m not crying, you are ! @blakeshelton singing #GodsCountry with Wyatt earlier at @ChoctawCasinos Wyatt is Blake’s biggest fan & waiting for a heart transplant. He always carries his backpack for his meds.”
While another added, “This just made my day. Blake you are the best! Wyatt will always remember this moment! Prayers he is able to get his heart transplant n live a long and healthy life. Humanity still does exist.”
This has strengthened Harley McKee’s resolve to keep pushing for Wyatt till he gets the help and support he needs.
