Jeremy Miller is best known for playing young Ben Seaver on Growing Pains. Unfortunately, his growing pains continued after the show when he found himself battling alcoholism. Now, seven years sober, the 45-year-old is opening up about his struggles.
Jeremy said that he began drinking at a young age and in 2011, was desperate for a change. He explained, “I tried rehab, in-patient rehab, outpatient rehab, hydrotherapy, herbal therapies. I tried hypnosis. I tried just about everything I could find, and just nothing worked for me. Nothing helped me get past that constant bombarding craving that was always there.”
Finally, he found a time-released implant that released the drug Naltrexone into his system which helped to curb his cravings. He admitted that he has faltered over the years but is always working on maintaining his sobriety.
Jeremy also spoke about the worst thing he’s done while under the influence. He said he got into a fight with his fiancee over money. He added, “But I got in the car that day. I pounded a half pint of vodka, probably would have drank a lot more, and I got pulled over for a DUI, and from that point on, I got back into working on my recovery.”
Jeremy concluded, “It’s probably the thing I’m most ashamed of in my drinking career, is how many times I put other peoples’ lives at risk by getting behind the wheel. I did it way more than I like to admit.” Now, he hopes to be an inspiration to others wanting to get sober and stay sober.
