The New Trailer For ‘The Princess’ Reflects Princess Diana’s Struggles In The Spotlight

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ed Perkins has taken up the arduous task of exploring the life of Princess Diana. The whole world has always been enchanted with the intricacies of the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The Princess is a well-packaged documentary that uses audio and videos from the royal archives. The movie relays the outlook of the princess from the perspective of the media, starting from the start of her relationship with Prince Charles up to their divorce, which made the front pages of all newspapers, and how the backlash from it added up to her untimely death in 1997 at the young age of 36.

The synopsis by HBO offers, “Intensely emotional, The Princess is a visceral submersion into Diana’s life in the constant and often intrusive glare of the media spotlight. The film unfolds as if it were in the present, allowing viewers to experience the overwhelming adoration but also intense scrutiny of Diana’s every move and the constant judgment of her character. Through archival material, the film is also a reflection of society at the time, revealing the public’s own preoccupations, fears, aspirations, and desires.”

The Content Of The Princess’s Trailer

The trailer starts with the interview of Princess Diana and Prince Charles at their engagement. They are asked how they felt about each other at their first meeting. The prince answered the question, “I remember thinking what a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was. I don’t know what you thought of me…” and Princess Diana answered with, “Pretty amazing.”

The trailer also showed how Diana aroused the public’s interest, her ordeal in the hands of the paparazzi, and the fact that she had people who swarmed around her every time there was a royal event. This made Prince Charles realize that he was “taking second place,” according to what a reporter said.

The trailer ends as Prince Charles speaks to young Prince William with Diana looking on. The young Prince looks into the lens of a video camera, and Charles tells him, “The people in there, look at them…trapped.” Some other parts of the reel had Diana covering a camera lens with her hand, the fire outbreak at Windsor Castle in 1992, and Prince William and Harry at the funeral of their mother, Diana.

The two sons of Princess Diana, Harry and William, have been honest about the impact of their mother’s legacy on their lives. Harry, while speaking with Today, said, “It’s almost as though she’s done her bit with my brother, and now she’s very much back to helping me.

[She] got him set up, now she’s helping me set up. That’s what it feels like, you know? He’s his kids. I’ve got my kids. You know, circumstances are obviously different. But I feel her presence in almost everything that I do now.”
