Janet Jackson Recalls Super Bowl Halftime Show Wardrobe Mishap

Janet Jackson recently talked about the infamous Super Bowl halftime show mishap having to do with her wardrobe. The 2004 halftime show, alongside Justin Timberlake, was considered a controversial one, when her wardrobe malfunction accidentally exposed her breast when her fellow performer grabbed her and a piece of her outfit came right off.

The two were performing the hit song “Rock Your Body.” She spoke about this on the new two-night Lifetime and A&E documentary event called Janet. Thankfully, she says she has no hard feelings for JT.

“Honestly, this whole thing was blown way out of proportion. And, of course, it was an accident that should not have happened, but everyone is looking for someone to blame and that’s got to stop,” she said.

She continues, “Justin and I are very good friends, and we will always be very good friends… We spoke just a few days ago. He and I have moved on, and it’s time for everyone else to do the same.”

If you remember the 2004 halftime show correctly, Jackson was facing a lot of scrutiny and backlash for what happened. So much that her music was blacklisted from radio stations and TV channels for a time. On the other hand, Timberlake’s music sales spiked significantly and he avoided any blame on the wardrobe malfunction—but this may have been because of Jackson herself.

She did confirm that JT tried to take some of the burden off her at the time. “We talked once and [Justin] said, ‘I don’t know if I should come out and make a statement,'” Janet said. “And I said, ‘Listen, I don’t want any drama for you. They’re aiming all of this at me.’ So I said, ‘If I were you, I wouldn’t say anything.'”
