Christina Applegate On She And ‘The Sweetest Thing’ Co-Star Selma Blair Both Having MS

Christina Applegate, who was recently diagnosed with MS, is now reflecting on the fact that both she and her The Sweetest Thing co-star, Selma Blair, have MS. “A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it,” Applegate wrote back in August 2021.

She also shared how she felt about she and Blair having MS at the same time during a Q&A with fans. A fan asked how it was for them filming The Sweetest Thing together, to which she replied it was “so fun,” but “sad both of us have MS.”

When Applegate came out with the news that she was battling MS, Blair was one of the first ones to be there for her, saying, “Loving you always. Always here.”

Back in November 2021, Applegate celebrated her 50th birthday with a tweet about resilience. “I turned 50 today. And I have MS,” she said at the time. “It’s been a hard one. Sending so much love to all of you this day. Many are hurting today, and I am thinking of you. May we find that strength to lift our heads up. Mine currently is on my pillow. But I try.”

Blair has also been open and honest on her journey with MS, recently appearing in a documentary called Introducing Selma Blair, in which she discusses the treatment she underwent for the disease, and how working as an actress has changed due to her MS. “The parts that I’m offered since I’ve had my diagnosis are the old woman, the person in the wheelchair, the person bumping into walls,” she reveals. “I might be those things, but I’m still everything else I was before, and I shouldn’t be relegated to that.”
