Micky Dolenz, now the last surviving member of the hit musical group the Monkees, has penned an emotional and heartbreaking message for Mike Nesmith. It was reported that Nesmith recently passed away from heart failure at 78 years old.
“I’m heartbroken. I’ve lost a dear friend and partner. I’m so grateful that we could spend the last couple of months together doing what we loved best – singing, laughing, and doing shtick,” Dolenz writes in a Twitter post. “I’ll miss it all so much. Especially the shtick. Rest in peace, Nez.”
Dolenz attached a photo of the two embracing in a hug, and it appears to be a fairly recent photo of them as well. The two had just wrapped up their Monkees farewell tour at the end of November.

Nesmith’s manager also confirmed the tragic news, which came as a sudden shock to fans. “With Infinite Love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes,” a statement read earlier today.
Nesmith became part of the Monkees in 1965 after he moved to LA following a stint in the Air Force. Nesmith would go on to have a successful solo career and has been considered one of the pioneers of country-rock since. He continued to tour with the Monkees throughout his career and managed to complete his farewell tour with Dolenz that wrapped November 14th in LA.
