Ron Howard recently shared an adorable photo from back in his Opie days during The Andy Griffith Show. In the photo shared to his Twitter account, he shares a sweet photo from his youth and updates fans on sales of his new book called The Boys by himself and his brother, Clint Howard.
“Our mom loved #Christmas. Just heard that there have been 5 printings of hc.com/theboys due to sales! Thanks! We also hear from some that they have found our book sold out in some stores. If u can’t find it Pls tweet the store name I’ll pass it along to #HarperCollins” he writes alongside the adorable photo.
Even though being on The Andy Griffith Show and being a child actor was just part of his life, he recalls getting bullied over it. When Ron and Clint were interviewed by Mario Lopez recently on their book promotion tour, they spoke about how Ron was bullied frequently by his peers in school. Many of them called him a “weirdo” and a “freak.”

While Ron doesn’t act too much anymore and spends a lot of time behind the camera directing, he still often gets opportunities to act. The last time he acted was actually in 1986 as an older Opie in the TV movie Return to Mayberry. He also revealed that through the years, he’s been pitched “three different roles over the last couple of decades where the actors wound up being nominated in the Best Supporting category.”
He adds, “Some interesting filmmakers have thought that it might be a good idea to try to get me in front of the camera again, which is very, very flattering.”
