Quentin Tarantino Vows To Never Give A ‘Penny’ Of His Fortune To His Mom — Here’s Her Reaction

Famed director Quentin Tarantino has said that he’s “vowed” to never give a penny of his fortune to his mother, all because of a harsh comment she made when he was younger. He opened up about this on the podcast “The Moment with Brian Koppelman.”

The 58-year-old director says he wanted to pursue a writing career from a young age. He also struggled in school, which is something his mother, Connie Zastoupil, “always had a hard time about.” According to Yahoo!, she berated him over his poor academics and told the aspiring writer something he would never forget.

“And then, in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little writing career?’ — with the finger quotes — ‘this little writing career that you’re doing? That (expletive) is (expletive) over,’ ” Tarantino said on the podcast.

He clarified a bit more by saying that his mother didn’t want him writing in class when he was “supposed to be doing something else.” Despite anything, though, the comment definitely sat with Tarantino through his life and he never forgot it for a moment.

He has since stuck to that promise

“And when she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head, and I go, ‘Okay, lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success. There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you. No Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing because you said that,’ ” he says.

And since making that vow as a kid, he’s stuck to it. “I helped her out of a jam with the IRS, but no house,” he said. “No Cadillac.” Tarantino added that it’s important for parents to realize that their words have an impact on their kids… long-term. “There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children. Remember: There are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

Well, in a statement to USA Today, his mother actually responded to those comments. “Regarding my son Quentin – I support him, I’m proud of him and love him and his growing new family,” she says. “It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my Grandson Leo.”

She added that it’s easy for podcast comments to “spin and go viral without full context” and that she does “not wish to participate in this salacious transactional media frenzy.” Tarantino has gone on to become the director of some of the most famous films including 1994’s Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill series among many others.
