57-year-old Rob Lowe recently celebrated a huge milestone. He has been sober for 31 years after previously struggling with alcoholism and drug abuse. Rob has been acting since he was young and unfortunately got caught up in the party lifestyle for many years.
To celebrate his sobriety, he also thanked his family for always looking out for him and putting up with him! He wrote, “Today I have 31 years drug and alcohol free. I want to give thanks to everyone walking this path with me, and welcome anyone thinking about joining us; the free and the happy. And a big hug to my family for putting up with me!! Xoxo”
He also recalled the moment he knew he really needed help. He missed a call from his mother. He let the call go to voicemail because he was so hungover. His mother’s message was about his grandfather in the hospital and she needed his help. At that moment, all Rob could think about was drinking.

So, he called a drug and alcohol counselor that a friend had recommended a year prior! He got help and now is happy to say he has been sober for over three decades.
Last year he wrote, “Thank you to all those who have inspired me on this wonderful, challenging and life-changing journey. If you, or someone you know, are struggling with alcohol or addiction, there CAN be a future of hope, health and happiness. And it comes one day at a time. #recovery #ItWorks.”
Congrats to Rob on his sober anniversary!
