Cher Pays Tribute To Late ‘Moonstruck’ Co-Star Olympia Dukakis

Olympia Dukakis recently passed away at 89 years old. She was best known for her role in Moonstruck, where she played Cher’s mother. Cher and Olympia were both honored with Oscars for their roles in the film as Italian American mother and daughter.

The 74-year-old wrote, “Olympia Dukakis Was an Amazing,Academy Award Winning Actress.Olympia Played My Mom In Moonstruck,& Even Though Her Part was That Of a Suffering Wife, We😂ALL The Time.She Would Tell Me How MUCH She Loved Louis,Her”Handsome Talented,Husband”.I Talked To Her 3Wks Ago. Rip Dear One” She also shared some photos of Olympia and her late husband Louis.

Cher honored her former co-star Olympia Dukakis in a series of tweets

Cher also revealed that she heard Olympia was sick so she called and asked to speak with her. Olympia’s daughter said she may not be able to hear or speak but Olympia was able to say she loved Cher. What a nice final moment for the pair of actresses.

Olympia mainly worked in the theater but transitioned to films later in life. Many also know her for her roles in Moonstruck and Steel Magnolias. She continued to act right up until her death with her final role being in a 2021 movie called Not To Forget. 

Olympia got the role in Moonstruck when she was 57 years old. She once said, “‘Moonstruck’ was the first one. It’s like somebody said, ‘Look, she waited all these years. Let’s give her something good.’ I mean it was incredible and then that changed my whole life. My daughter was going to college on credit cards when I did that movie you know and after that, we were able to send our children to college with no problems.”
