Madonna’s Daughter, Lourdes, Normalizes Armpit Hair In Selfie With Mom

Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, embraces and normalizes women having armpit hair in a new selfie with her famous mom. The 24-year-old artist and designer proudly displayed her armpit hair in a selfie, captioning the photo, “Like Pieces of your Heart Walking around outside of you #lola.”

‘Lola’ is the nickname of Madonna’s child, whom she shares with Cuban personal trainer-actor Carlos Leon. The photo was posted to Madonna’s Instagram account with over 15 million followers.

Changing beauty standards for women by showing off armpit hair

The decision to post such a photo was met with positive reactions from people and over 440,000 ‘likes’. Many comments included the phrases “two beautiful, strong women” and “beautiful mother with her gorgeous daughter.”

This isn’t the first time Lourdes decided to make a statement by showing off her unshaved armpits. Back in November 2018, she made headlines for showing off her unshaved armpits and legs on the red carpet at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala. This was just weeks after she did the same at New York Fashion Week. She did the same this year while campaigning for Marc Jacobs.

Lourdes may have been inspired by her famous mom who has been breaking barriers for women’s beauty since the beginning. Back in 2010, Madonna spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about women’s beauty standards, saying: “Going to high school, I saw how popular girls had to behave to get the boys. I knew I couldn’t fit into that. So I decided to do the opposite. I refused to wear makeup, to have a hairstyle. I refused to shave. I had hairy armpits.”

Then, in 2014, she shared a photo of her own unshaved armpits with the caption: “Long hair…… Don’t Care!!!!!!”

It’s safe to say that Lourdes is definitely following in the barrier-breaking footsteps of her mom.
