Fellow Python Michael Palin also spoke to the UK  news agency Press Association.  “He was far more than one of the funniest writer-performers of his generation, he was the complete Renaissance comedian — writer, director, presenter, historian, brilliant children’s author, and the warmest, most wonderful company you could wish to have.”

Other comedy writers and stars pay tribute to this great talent

Gaiman says, “36 years ago I met Terry Jones. I was meant to interview him. I asked for tea, so he opened a bottle of Chablis & got me drunk. He was funny, brilliant and honest. He was irrepressible and is seen here repressing the very young me. Rest in Peace, Terry. You were an inspiration.”

McQuarrie recalls his legacy, “The magnificent Terry Jones has died. It’s the only thing he ever did that wasn’t funny. Thank you for my gloriously misspent youth, Sir. And Godspeed.”

Jones was known as an accomplished director and directed one of the group’s best movies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He would direct that alongside Terry Gilliam. He would then go on to be the sole director of 1979’s Life of Brian and 1983’s Monty Python’s Meaning of Life. After the Pythons, Jones would go on to continue directing other TV and film projects. This includes 1989’s Erik the Viking. He would also write a series of books.
