Susan Lucci still remains one of the most popular soap opera icons. She portrayed Erica Kane on the show All My Children for many years. She made her debut on the show in January 1970. Her last episode was in 2011! For instance, that means it has been about 50 years since she started on the show.
To celebrate the anniversary, she posted a throwback photo of her first day on set. She captioned the headshot, “January 10, 1970—the first day I stepped onto the All My Children stage as Erica Kane. Thank you to all of you!!!”

In addition, she played one of the most well-known characters in a soap opera. According to Wikipedia, “Erica is considered to be the most popular character in soap opera history. TV Guide calls her ‘unequivocally the most famous soap opera character in the history of daytime TV,’ and included her in their 2013 list of The 60 Nastiest Villains of All Time.”
