John Travolta’s 8-year-old son is already following in his famous dad’s footsteps! Travolta shared a photo of his son, Ben, flying a plane! He is riding shotgun in the cockpit of a Qantas airplane. The photo was posted on Instagram with the caption “My son Ben is taking my place! His first A380 @qantas flight.” The image shows Ben with a pilot’s hat on next to one of his friends.
The Grease star is a licensed private pilot and has been a Qantas ambassador since June 2002. Travolta would join the Qantas’ Spirit of Friendship tour to encourage traveling after 9/11 when many people were afraid to.
Ben flying a plane just like his father
The Qantas website talks about the Spirit of Friendship tour on their website. “The tour began on 1 July 2002, with John piloting his Boeing 707, painted in its original 1960s Qantas branding and livery,” they write. “Upon commencing our Spirit of Friendship Tour, John was presented with his 747-400 ‘wings,’ having undergone extensive training with Qantas in Sydney and Boeing in Seattle.”
Additionally, Travolta owns a former Qantas Boeing 707. His love of aviation began as a child, just like his own son’s interest. “John Travolta first became aware of Qantas as a boy, when his fascination with all things aviation began,” the Qantas website says. “He was struck by Qantas’ safety record and the fact that it flew the longest routes in the world.”
Travolta additionally claims that his favorite toy when he was younger was a plane. Makes sense! He even posts a video of a toy airplane to his Instagram, saying that it was his favorite when he was 8 years old. Moreover, on National Aviation Day in August, he writes on social media, “I have loved aviation for all my life. There is no feeling in the world quite like flying an airplane.”
Travolta and wife, Kelly Preston, are also parents to 19-year-old daughter Ella. Their eldest son, Jett, would sadly pass away January 2nd, 2009, at age 16 after having a seizure while on a family vacation.
