Everyone knows Marilyn Monroe as that gorgeous, blonde-haired bombshell from the ’50s and ’60s. She was one of the most popular sex symbols of that time period and still lives up to her name decades later. She was only a top-billed actress for only a decade and her films grossed $200 million ($2 billion in 2018) by the time of her death in 1962. She was a pretty big deal!
However, she has to start out somewhere just like every singer and actor does. She did not always have the platinum blonde bob we all know and love. Her blonde hair and signature red lips would become the most iconic look of her time. But back in 1940 before it all began, she is 14 years old and growing up in California by the name Norma Jeane.
Marilyn Monroe before she was famous
By 1947, she would start on her modeling career with her naturally brown and curly hair! So different from the Marilyn we know, but still gorgeous as ever. She also had begun shaping up her eyebrows and showing off her pearly whites. If only that Marilyn had any idea what would be in store for the rest of her life.
She would go on to star in films like The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Marilyn would also have the honor of singing “Happy Birthday” for then-President of the United States John F. Kennedy. Back in the ’40s, she really was just another aspiring actress and would have no idea what was to come before she was famous.
Now that we’ve seen the Marilyn before Marilyn even happened, let’s compare that to the one we know so well. Still the same beautiful, talented, and legendary woman!
