Do you remember when Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed “Shallow” during the Academy Awards? Many thought the A Star is Born co-stars were truly in love during their Oscar performance! They sure looked like they were. Now, Lady Gaga admits that they faked it because they wanted people to feel that they were in love because well, it was a performance!

Lady Gaga recently spoke out about the rumors and specifically that performance with Oprah Winfrey in an interview. She said, “Quite frankly, I think the press is very silly. I mean, we made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course, we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars. We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on.”

Lady Gaga shut down rumors that stemmed from the Oscar performance

The singer and actress also said that they prepped for the performance for days. She continued, “I guess we did a good job!” The rumors continued to spread after Lady Gaga and her fiance Christian Carino split up. Not long after, Bradley and his longtime girlfriend broke up as well. Many thought it was because the stars were in love.

Yet, both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have always been adamant that their chemistry is just for show. She previously told Jimmy Kimmel on his show, “Yes, people saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see.”
