Matthew McConaughey has founded the Just Keep Livin Foundation with his wife Camila Alves. The nonprofit organization helps high school students in the quest for healthy and active lives. However, he recently took a break from helping high school students to help those who have been fighting the California wildfires.
Matthew recently helped Wild Turkey and Operation BBQ Relief. Matthew is the creative director at the company Wild Turkey. For instance, together they held their annual “With Thanks” giving campaign for first responders. The team, including Matthew, prepared and delivered over 800 turkey dinners!
Matthew and the team delivered over 800 turkey dinners to first responders
They delivered the meals to over 20 firehouses that are currently working in Southern California to stop the wildfires. They have been delivering the meals since November 1, 2019. In addition, they prepared 800 additional turkey dinners that will go to homeless shelters in the area. The turkeys were donated by Butterball. They sponsor Operation BBQ Relief.
Generally, the team gives turkey dinners to different people each year. In the past, they gave turkeys to Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Last year, Matthew and the team gave the turkey dinners to first responders in Texas, where they were experiencing flooding.
According to a press release, Matthew said, “Teaming up with Operation BBQ Relief as part of the Wild Turkey ‘With Thanks’ has never been more meaningful. Little did we know when planning this annual event that California, my second home, would once again be hit with devastating fires.”
He continued, “Being able to provide meals to the men and women who put themselves on the line is an honor for me, Jimmy and Eddie Russell. We are grateful to be here today to say thank you, shine a light on their unwavering conviction, and hopefully inspire others to get involved and help in their own communities.”
The CEO of Operation BBQ Relief also spoke out
The CEO and co-founder of Operation BBQ Relief, Stan Hays, also spoke out about the event. He said, “Part of our mission throughout the year is to support these men and women as they are responding to severe situations in their communities. BBQ is comfort food and reminds people of good times. These hot meals we are preparing uplift the spirits of the first responders for their hard work each and every day.”
Wild Turkey will continue to donate turkey dinners to first responders in Dallas, New Orleans, and Chicago in the upcoming months. They will also donate $50,000 to Operation BBQ Relief. In conclusion, watch the video below to see Matthew giving back to the town in Kentucky:
