As previously reported by DYR, A Punky Brewster reboot is in the works. Soleil Moon Frye has already signed on to reprise her role as Punky. Now, Freddie Prinze Jr. has signed on to the reboot series as well. It will air on NBC‘s new streaming service called Peacock.
Freddie will play Travis, Punky’s ex-husband. According to TODAY, “He’s a musician who frequently travels, but still manages to be a great father and continues to have sparks with Punky.” It sounds like this could be an excellent storyline!

Soleil is also the executive producer of the show. She expressed her excitement to see Freddie join the cast on Twitter. “Welcome @RealFPJr to our #punkybrewster family & @UCP So excited to have you. #punkypower,” she tweeted. He responded with a bunch of excited emojis.
Punky Brewster was a popular show in the ’80s. It followed Punky, who was a lively girl raised by her foster dad Henry Warnimont (the late George Gaynes). It earned several Emmy Award nominations. Now, NBC is bringing back the show, this time when Punky is all grown up.
TODAY continued, “This updated series will revolve around Punky as a single mother raising three children who sees similarities with herself in a young girl she meets.” NBC’s new streaming service Peacock will also air a Saved by the Bell revival.
