Everyone knows Pauley Perrette, who would play the role of Abby Sciuto on the hit show NCIS from 2003 to 2018. During a 2015 interview with Studio 10 Australia, she was asked how much fans expect Pauley to be like Abby. “People who know me really well don’t think that I’m like Abby at all. And people that don’t know me, they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re just like her.’ And I’m like, ‘not really,’” she says.
However, she did gain a bit of inspiration to play the role! This inspiration would also affect Abby’s mannerisms in the show and it comes from Pauley’s real-life rescue dog.
Her rescue dog CiCi claims all credit here
“I patterned everything [Abby] does physically after this rescue dog that I had named CiCi. So, the way Abby stands–she stands very upright—and the way she cocks her head, and the way she turns, and the way she walks–everything is done exactly like this dog,” Pauley explains. “I’m not like that. I have terrible posture and I’m nowhere near as alert as Abby is.”
Pauley’s hair-dying disaster
Even though many suspect that Pauley would want nothing to do with NCIS ever again, back in 2015 she did tell Queen Latifah how much she loved playing Abby. She went as far for the role as dying her naturally blonde hair black, which is a pretty huge change!
“So, on that day, I dyed my hair. It was the first day back shooting on NCIS. I dyed my hair on Wednesday, and I went to work at five in the morning on a Thursday. I worked all day long, went home, and woke up the next morning and my head was getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger,” Pauley explains. She would end up having an allergic reaction from the dye!
She has clear dedication toward her TV roles
Pauley says that she kept her hair black because she didn’t want to let fans down. “A lot of people were like ‘Oh no, go blonde.’ And I’m like, I don’t think the world is ready for a blonde Abby. I’m not ready for a blonde Abby,” she says.
Sounds like Pauley had a lot of dedication to this role! We commend her for that! And what an adorable story about her rescue dog. Check out her interview with Queen Latifah below where she talks about her hair-dying disaster!
