Parents Are Freaking Out About This Mom Collecting Her Kids’ Friend’s Phones

One mom shared a post about how she collects her children’s friend’s phones when they come to her house. Naturally, people have strong opinions about this. Author, activist, and mom Glennon Doyle shared on Facebook that she makes her kid’s friends leave their cell phones in a basket when they come over.

She said this is so the kids actually hang out and talk to each other instead of playing on their phones or texting the whole time. In a world where all of us, especially teenagers, are so connected, it seems like a great idea to give kids a break from social media. What do you think?

Glennon writes, “I love my kids’ friends so much that I want them to talk to each other at our house. So Abby and I have them check their phones at the door. Which we can do cause we’re the bosses of this house. They all act exasperated but seem interestingly relieved. Then, after a minute, they look at each other. And talk. And dance and laugh and stuff. And they remember that they are with their friends so there is no need to be anywhere else.”

Find Out What Other Parents Had To Say In The Comments

Of course, everyone has their opinions. There are a lot of parents who agree with Glennon and a lot that think her system could be dangerous. They also don’t like that she has authority over their kids. Some parents think it is a great idea and shared that they have similar rules at their home.

Other parents say they would be upset if another parent did this to their children. Some kids have anxiety and like to be able to text their parents whenever they need to. Some even say it is “grandstanding.” They say that if a child feels unsafe or uncomfortable at another person’s home, they want their child to have their phone to contact the parent.
