In light of the ongoing controversy surrounding Confederate symbols across the US, The Dukes of Hazzard may be facing jeopardy in their streaming feature. Movies like Gone With the Wind and Cops have been pulled from streaming services/off the air entirely in the wake of ongoing protests against racial injustice.
The Dukes of Hazzard has been often sporting the recognizable Confederate flag for quite some time. This means it could be the next show in the spotlight to be pulled from a streaming service. Viewers of the show will note that the symbol is seen on the roof of Bo and Luke’s signature car, the bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger. The car also sports the named “General Lee” on it, a well-known Confederate leader in US history.
This isn’t the first time that the Confederate symbol cost the show its place on-air. Five years ago, TV land benched the show due to the controversial symbol in the wake of the Charleston church shooting. Series co-star Ben Jones talks about pulling the show from TV networks due to the controversial nature of the symbol.

“That’s no surprise. And it’s almost meaningless. No one knew it was on Amazon Prime unless they ran across it when they were searching around there. I think it would be a shame, but they all have caved over different points in time.”
He continues, “I end up defending myself and my culture all the time on these issues. The Rebel flag on top that car has been seen by hundreds of millions of viewers for 40 f****** years. You can’t just say that we’re going to be politically correct and cave to whatever they want because it’s insensitive. We had a huge Black audience, and Black people come in all the time to our stores saying, ‘I loved that show. I watched it with my family.’”
It’s hard to tell whether or not the show will be pulled from a streaming feature, but it may come into question sooner or later. With everything going on, only time will tell.
